Our first trunk show – and the first major collaboration of Giselle Theriault and Kate Church — was a resounding success! Lots of people (women and men) packed into Aphrodite’s gallery space to view the individual creations of these gifted artists and some amazing pieces they created together. Only the combination of Gisele’s inspiring jewelry (“Blaze Forth With Fearless Heart,” “No Mud, No Lotus”) and Kate’s exquisite sculptural puppetry (which caught the eye of Cirque de Soleil) could have produced a long, graceful necklace of mala beads with two Buddhas (Buddacrobats?) spinning on a silver trapeze!
Gisele makes her incredible jewelry under the company name The Barber’s Daughters (TBDs), and her work has been shown in fashion magazines such as Vanity Fair where Alicia Keys declared TBDs her favorite jewelry. Kate’s sculptural puppetry has been shown across the continent, and Cirque de Soleil commissioned Kate to create a private label line under their umbrella (or should we say tent?) after discovering her work at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto.
Surrounded by the new birch tree racks holding the vibrant new fall apparel, those lucky enough to attend also got a glimpse into the heart and soul of these longtime artists and friends as Kate and Gisele shared their own creative journeys, what inspires their work, and what goes into the making of their unique creations.
Thanks to Kate and Gisele and everyone who attended, it truly was an exceptional event!
It looks like an amazing time. I love those photos and the creativity of both women. Thank YOU for sharing this with those of us who couldn’t make it.
