Radiance and Light featuring Wayne Boucher and Marianne Fraser

We had a spectacular event this past Tuesday, February 12 at Aphrodite. In spite of the bad weather the Pictou County contingent was strong – we thank you all for making the trek! But the person who travelled the farthest was Wayne Boucher who came all the way from Annapolis. He and Marianne met for the first time and became great friends as they spoke about their mutual inspiration of light and colour. The audience posed some interesting questions and observations in this intimate environment. Following the art presentation we were delighted by Ralph DeCoste who sang us an original new tune and then we put on a fashion show with guest models Marsha Voica, Svetlana Vakal, Gillian McCulloch and Aphrodite staff Linda Felderhof and Lura Donnachie. I spoke about the philosophy behind Aphrodite – as in who has an art opening in a dress shop? It’s about breaking out of the silos into which we are too eager to delineate specific disciplines. At Aphrodite we celebrate great creativity in all its forms whether it’s painting, photography, fine craft, culinary arts, performing or fashion design. It all starts with a blank white surface that some creative mind brings it to life. The creation of beauty is an act of love and it’s this love that we are presently honouring in our theme “Love in the Spring”. The show will be up until April so be sure to come and see it if you haven’t already. Have a look at the slide show from that night. We slipped one photo in there from the previous week when Barb Stegemann came back to Aphrodite with 7 Virtues just before her European tour. Another great event!
