APHRODITE CHIC GOES CONTINENTAL
Antigonish and environs is home to some fascinating people who are true global citizens. We are honoured that they are taking some of our outfits to ports of call around the world.
Tila Kellman at the opening of an art exhibit she curated by Jeannie Thib called Hyperflat at Brock University in St. Catherine’s. She commented on her Nadia Toto outfit saying “ I got lots of compliments on my dress! It was certainly comfortable and it did go well with the exhibition, as well as help make one of my main points: we inhabit ornamental botanical patterns.”
Professor Dorothy Lander and her husband pediatric oncologist John Graham Pole are also the co founders of Arts Health Antigonish. When they travelled to Greece last December Dorothy wrote “At the temple of Athena today draped in my Aphrodite best. It may not be Greek but it is Sarah Pacini made in Italy.” Photo by John Graham-Pole”
Retired journalist and social activist Kingsley Brown and his wife well known painter Nancy Stevens attended the Rainforest Alliance Gala at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC this past May. Kingsley collected the Sustainable Standard Setter Award on behalf of the Nova Scotia Landowners and Forest Fibre Producers Association that he helped establish many years ago. The award is often referenced as the Nobel Prize of sustainable forestry. Nancy is wearing sheer lace tunic and pants by Sympli. Kingsley emailed the photo with the caption “Tiiu, we shop on Main Street!” His suit comes from Oak Manor.
Visual artist Bev Cameron wrote “totally Aphrodite at Lagrasse, in the Languedoc region of SW France” where she vacationed with her family this past May. Bev’s colourful blouse is by Desigual.
Thanks to all of the beautiful women who shop at Aphrodite!
Kingslea is close. The word is derived from old English, I believe, from King’s Lea meaning King’s Wood. My British grandmother was an admirer of Charles Kingsley. She named her son Kingsley who named his first son Kingsley as I did mine! We never used Jr. Love, King
Thanks for that – changes made.
Love,
Tiiu
Hi Tiiu, Great blog. Wonderful to hear you’re getting so many hits. Is it too late to correct the spelling of my name – Stevens? love from one of your beautiful friends, Nancy
Geez! I’m sorry about that. Correction made.
Great blog posts, Tiiu–and thanks! And we are ambassadors for Aphrodite–when people in Ontario ask where I buy clothes, I say that Antigonish has this terrific dress shop with people who really know how to put things together for each of their clients. In San Francisco, you’d have to go to I. Magnin’s for this!
I’ll have to miss the Spring Fling, unfortunately. It’s M.’s birthday, and I’ll be busy cooking…

Thanks Tila. You are wonderful. We’ll miss you tonight.
