A VERY SPECIAL EVENING on Saturday, Sept. 26!
Aphrodite has joined forces with the Tearmann Society to bring you a fabulous evening of FASHION, FROLIC AND FUN! Most important is that this is a fundraising event for a most worthwhile cause – The Tearmann House, a transitional centre for abused women that services Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough Counties.
Close to 200 tickets have already been sold – and must be bought in advance as we expect a sell-out! For more on the Tearmann House read below. Hope to see you there!
THE TEARMANN SOCIETY FOR BATTERED WOMEN
Founded in 1084 the Tearmann House offers shelter, counselling, referrals, information and a crisis line for women in the Guysborough – Pictou – Antigonish tri-county region. Situated in New Glasgow, this 15 bed emergency shelter offers services to women and their children who have or are at risk of experiencing violence. In addition to shelter, women are provided with information or referrals they may require during their stay such as accessing housing, income assistance and/or mental health resources. They receive advocacy or accompaniment with various agencies such as Legal Aid, Family Court and Income Assistance. Even after they leave access to these services is still available. The society is aptly named, as Tearmann is a Gaelic word that means “refuge or sanctuary”. See http://thans.ca/get-help/find-a-shelter/tearmann-house/
Congratulations. This is a wonderful thing to do for Tearmann House. Mary A. Haley
