Springing into summer has us all checking our our wardrobes to remember what we have, what goes with what and what might we need to freshen things up a bit. We’re in that in-between season and state of mind.

Someone who knows what she wants is Jackie Rose who has come all the way from Uganda to study business at StFX and hopefully develop a career in fashion. She’s part timing with us  here at Aphrodite and we couldn’t resist featuring Jackie in some of our best spring/summer ensembles. This lovely series was professionally photographed by John David. Lately I’ve been thinking that maybe we need to amp it up a bit at Aphrodite. I was recently in Manhattan, Boston and Providence RI where I saw some amazing exhibits in the major art galleries. The confluence of art and fashion is taking centre stage everywhere! The Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art (The Met), the largest art museum in the USA in NYC is currently hosting an exhibit called MANUS x MACHINA, Fashion in an Age of Technology. I was fortunate enough to be there recently and this is what got me thinking. Have a look:

The exhibit includes couturier designs that date back to the 1930’s featuring Lanvin, Madame Gres, House of Dior right up to contemporary leading designers such as Issey Miyake, Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen. Many are now employing 3D computer printed imagery.

For more details enjoy the videos that appear on the website for the exhibit.
