We’re at the apex of the summer approaching the last week of July. It’s a time of year when we absolutely MUST have FUN!!! And we are. There’s been so much going on and I want to tell you about it. First New Glasgow made history on July 16 when the Riverfront Theatre hosted the first ever drag show called Jake and Shaun’s Great Big Gay Affair. Jake shares his fashionista sensibilities with us at Aphrodite from time to time as many of our Pictou County customers know. He was joined by a host of characters. Here’s a peek of the going’s on at the show. We all had a blast! Psst – there’s an Aphrodite outfit in the show….
Then this week our dear friend Anne Thaler arranged an Aphrodite pop – up store in Ingonish. We hauled a truck generously offered by Gail and Gary and laughed all the way there and back. Then on Wednesday we opened shop at the brand new Periwinkle Cafe and Inn in Ingonish. They provided the most delicious lunch of finger sandwiches and baked goods that we all enjoyed while everyone shopped. Aphrodite was well loved by the most stylish women of Cape Breton. It could not have been a better spot – I highly recommend making it a stop as you tour the Cabot Trail. It’s also home to Salty Rose’s Studio where you’ll find some gorgeous jewellery and fine Nova Scotian craft. Upstairs there a sweet apartment than you can rent through Airbnb. Last but not least come out an celebrate the arts in our region again at the ART FAIR this Friday, July 22 at Chisholm Park. Don’t have supper – instead sample the cooking from other cultures including excellent chocolates made by one of our Syrian families. Feast your eyes on the visual art displays by some of Antigonish’s best artists and just hang out in your town. Aphrodite will remain open until 8 pm so you can hang out with us as well.
Bet you’re all having some awesome barbecues and going for swims in the warm waters. And how about the gardens? All that rain was good for something! A night at Festival Antigonish must also be in the cards. Need something to wear? Well we know a place where you can find the perfect thing – now ON SALE!
